BMW TWINPOWER TURBO PETROL ENGINES.

The innovations package of the BMW TwinPower Turbo 8- and 6-cylinder petrol engines is one of the key elements of the BMW EfficentDynamics strategy. A TwinScroll turbocharger with Valvetronic, double-VANOS and High Precision Injection mean lower fuel consumption and an increase in dynamics.

Ready for top performance: the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo represents the highest standard in motoring with the BMW TwinPower Turbo 8-cylinder petrol engine in the BMW 550i with two turbochargers, Valvetronic, double-Vanos and petrol direct High Precision Injection. This engine, with its rev range from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm and a satisfying maximum torque of 650 Nm across the speed range accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h with 330 kW in an impressive 5.0 seconds. The engine's compact build shortens the exhaust paths for extremely direct responsiveness, while double-Vanos optimally distributes the torque over the entire rev range. Efficiency doesn't come too short either: combined consumption is 9.2 litres per 100 km with combined CO2 emissions from 214 g/km.

In the BMW in-line 6-cylinder petrol engine of the BMW 535i the result is 225 kW, a powerful 400 Nm across a wide speed range and commendably silky smoothness. This dynamic start make the combined consumption values even more impressive: 8.2 l/100 km is all it takes to satisfy the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. Even the CO2 emissions are moderate: 192 g/km. *The published fuel consumption and CO2 emission figures are established according to legislated technical specifications (UNECE Regulation 101/UN Regulation 83 and SANS 20101 standards), which sets out the procedures that are used to measure the CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. The claimed figures are established using specific tests under standardised, carefully controlled conditions and may differ from consumption achieved under real world conditions with the influences of altitude, road surface, geographic conditions, vehicle options, temperature, humidity, tyres size and driving behaviour amongst others.

BMW TWINPOWER TURBO DIESEL ENGINES.

The BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engines for the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo are even more powerful, even quicker off the mark – and even more efficient.

Pure dynamics that make economic sense is what you get from the BMW TwinPower Turbo in-line 6-cylinder engine. Its high performance and markedly reduced fuel consumption and emissions is down to an innovative technology package from BMW EfficientDynamics. In the BMW 530d, the engine delivers 190 kW and enables a maximum torque of 560 Nm even from 1,500 rpm. The vehicle confidently accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds, while consumption remains at a frugal 5.8 l/100 km.

In the BMW 520d, the engine guarantees sustainable driving pleasure. Its powerful BMW TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder diesel engine provides 380 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm. Fuel consumption is an impressively low 5.5 l/100 km and CO2 emissions from 144 g/km. This much efficiency results in a maximum range of an astounding 1,275 km. The BMW TwinPower Turbo diesel engines fulfil the EU3 emission norm.
