RELIABLE ASSISTANCE.
BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance systems in the BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo.
Numerous innovative technologies support you in various ways and guarantee the highest level of comfort and safety. This means you can focus on one the important things in life like carefree driving pleasure.
BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY.
The full colour BMW Head-Up Display projects relevant driving information directly into the driver’s line of vision (not fully visible with polarised sunglasses), allowing him or her to fully concentrate on driving.
Depending on the vehicle’s equipment, the display can also show the Speed Limit Info with no-overtaking indicator, ECO PRO tips, Check Control messages as well as information and warnings from the driver assistance systems. Frequently used functions such as telephone and entertainment services can also be displayed and operated.
The icons projected onto the windscreen are displayed in a particularly high resolution and full colour, with traffic symbols realistically reproduced. The image's projection appears as if it were 2.3 m in front of the vehicle. This in combination with optimal positioning allow the information to be read quickly, conveniently and with minimal distraction.
The brightness of the projection automatically adjusts to suit the external light conditions, while the height of the projection changes depending on whether it is day or night. The driver can also select which information to display in addition to current speed and the warnings from the driver assistance systems.
iDRIVE TOUCH CONTROLLER.
The iDrive Touch Controller gives you convenient control of the iDrive system with one hand. Thanks to the touchpad integrated in the Controller, you can easily enter such information as destinations for the navigation system using your own handwriting.
You can also use it to access a wide range of functions and settings as well as for scrolling through lists. Operation is effortless and intuitive by means of touch. This is a great help for you as the driver since it barely distracts your concentration on the road. All functions operated using the Controller can be conveniently viewed in the Control Display.
BMW NIGHT VISION.
BMW Night Vision with Dynamic Light Spot detects people and larger animals at a long distance - and selectively illuminates them. A thermal image camera in the radiator grille, with a range of up to 300 metres, relays images of people and animals directly onto the Control Display.
As soon as the remote infrared detects pedestrians or larger animals on course for collision in the dark, the system directs two separately controlled Dynamic Light Spots at them without creating unpleasant glare. Both you and the person involved are given a highly effective warning of a potential risk situation.
Additional warnings are provided when the thermal image is activated in the multifunctional instrument display or in the full colour BMW Head-Up Display. In the event of an acute risk, an acoustic warning signal is also sounded and the brakes are set to maximum standby. BMW Night Vision with Dynamic Light Spot is a BMW ConnectedDrive innovation.
ANTI-DAZZLE HIGH-BEAM ASSIST.
Anti-dazzle high-beam assist makes night-time driving even more pleasant and safe for you. It provides excellent visibility in the dark without dazzling other drivers.
The system detects other road-users and selectively excludes them from the high-beam headlight distribution. Beam ranges of 400m ensure early detection of risks and improved visibility. Adaptive LED Headlights are required for the anti-dazzle function.
PARK ASSIST.
Park Assist makes parallel parking easier. When the system is active and you are driving slowly (below 35 km/h), it will measure any parking gaps your car passes.
When a large enough gap has been found, you switch on the turn indicator and Park Assist will do the steering, while you continue to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. You will also be supported by acoustic signals and instructions in the Control Display. So you can stay relaxed and enjoy greater safety every time you park.
CAMERA SYSTEMS.
Enjoy a clear view in the area around your vehicle when manoeuvring into parking spaces and at road exits with Park Distance Control, Surround View, Rear View Camera.
Park Distance Control (PDC) at the front and rear allows you to park safely and comfortably thanks to optical and acoustic signals.
Surround View shows your vehicle in the Control Display with the aid of a projection from above. The accompanying Side View system guarantees a better overview when visibility is poor at road exits. The Rear View Camera provides welcome support when you are reversing into parking spaces at speeds below 20 km/h.
ACTIVE PROTECTION.
Active Protection is the BMW ConnectedDrive preventive occupant protection system. If a critical situation arises on the road, the front safety belts are reversibly pretensioned, the electrically adjustable front passenger seat is returned to the upright position and the side windows are closed - as is the sliding roof, if there is one. A critical situation would include an emergency stop made by the driver or if the vehicle demonstrated excessive understeer or oversteer.
In certain accident situations, maximum deceleration can be applied to your vehicle to bring it to a complete standstill. This helps reduce the likelihood of a second collision or even prevent one altogether.
Attentiveness Assist also monitors your behaviour for signs of fatigue. Your steering responses are analysed and the system reacts to irregular driving behaviour. A notification appears in the Control Display suggesting you take a break.
