REAL TIME TRAFFIC INFORMATION.
Real Time Traffic Information takes the burden off the driver on highways and in other monotonous traffic situations. At speeds of up to 60 km/h, the system lets the car simply "glide along" with the other cars in dense traffic situations, making traffic jams less stressful. It automatically maintains the desired distance from the vehicle ahead and regulates the car's speed down to standstill. It also provides active steering support and is able to help the driver stay in the correct lane.
Real Time Traffic Information is included in the optional equipment option, Driving Assist Plus.
BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY.
The full colour BMW Head-Up Display projects all relevant driving information into the driver's field of vision, which means they can remain focused on the road. Current speed, directions from the navigation system, Speed Limit Info incl. no-overtaking indicator, telephone and entertainment lists are displayed, along with warnings from the driver assistance systems.
The symbols, which are projected onto a retractable panel above the instrument cluster, are depicted in full colour so that the traffic signs look realistic. The panel's slightly tinted colour increases the contrast.
The brightness of the projection automatically adjusts to outside light conditions, and can also be manually set to reflect individual preferences. The day and night displays also feature different designs. The driver can also select which information to display in addition to current speed and the warnings from the driver assistance systems. Visibility of the display is limited when wearing polarised sunglasses.
DRIVING ASSIST PLUS.
The Driving Assist Plus equipment option produces a clear improvement in safety and comfort. It includes the Approach and Pedestrian Warning with City Brake Activation and Lane Departure Warning as well as the High-Beam Assist. It also provides Speed Limit Info, camera-based Cruise Control with Stop&Go function and Real Time Traffic Information.
Please note: This function can be limited by darkness and fog.
Driving Assist
The Driving Assist equipment option includes camera-based driver assistance systems, such as Lane Departure Warning, Approach Warning, BMW Selective Beam and Speed Limit Info. The Approach and Pedestrian Warning with City Brake Activation warns of collisions at speeds between 10 and 60 km/h, while the Lane Departure Warning causes the steering wheel to vibrate when the lane is unintentionally changed at 70 km/h or over.
Lane Departure Warning
The Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver to an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel. The warning is not activated if the lane change is deliberate, that is, when the turn indicator has been activated.
Approach and Pedestrian Warning
Whereas the Approach Warning with City Brake Activation detects vehicles, the Pedestrian Warning with City Brake Activation reacts to pedestrians. When there is a risk of collision, the Approach Warning triggers a two-stage warning. Firstly, a symbol in the instrument cluster lights up, followed by an acoustic alarm. The Pedestrian Warning operates at speeds between 10 and 60 km/h and emits a single-level warning in the event of acute danger. If the system warns of a potential collision, the brakes are simultaneously preconditioned for a faster response. In case of an emergency, the system initiates braking, ensuring that the collision speed is reduced. If a vehicle ahead brakes heavily, the car responds immediately when the Approach Warning is activated. The system operates in steps. A warning symbol is first displayed, then the symbol begins blinking, an acoustic warning is then emitted and finally the brakes are lightly applied (when travelling at speeds under 60 km/h).
Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function
The camera-based Cruise Control with Stop&Go function maintains the desired speed in a range of 0 to 140 km/h and in relation to the distance from the vehicle in front. The Stop&Go function even controls speed down to a standstill, accelerating again easily when the gas pedal is pressed, for example in dense moving traffic.
Active Cruise Control with Stop&Go function is only available in conjunction with Steptronic transmission.
PARK ASSIST PACKAGE.
The Park Assist package combines Park Assist and Park Distance Control (PDC) in the front and rear. Together, the two systems ensure easy parking with increased safety at all times.
The Park Assist makes parallel parking easier. When the system is activated, it will measure any parking gaps while the driver passes by slowly (under 35 km/h). When a large enough gap has been found, the driver simply turns on the indicator and the Park Assist takes over the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also shows supplementary instructions in the Control Display and additional acoustic signals.
Park Distance Control (PDC) at the front and rear makes parking in and pulling out of tight spaces much easier. An acoustic signal warns about potential obstacles, reducing the danger of damage while manoeuvring. Ultrasound sensors at the vehicle's front and rear determine the position of potential obstacles.
REAR VIEW CAMERA.
The rear view camera allows the driver to view the area behind the car in the Control Display while manoeuvring and parking. The rear view camera allows for a better view when reversing at speeds below 15 km/h, for example when parking.
The track lines and coloured obstacle markings that appear in the Control Display show the driver if a parking spot is suitable and assist the driver if this is the case. When the steering wheel is at full lock, red turning circle lines appear, as well as green driving track lines, which adapt to every movement of the steering wheel.
The rear view camera is automatically deactivated after ten metres or when the vehicle travels faster than 15 km/h. In conjunction with the trailer tow hitch, the rear view camera makes the approach when hooking up a trailer easier with a practical zoom function.
NAVIGATION SYSTEM PLUS WITH iDRIVE TOUCH CONTROLLER.
The Navigation System Plus incl. BMW Head-Up Display brings together several useful components. It includes a navigation system with built-in 8.8'' LCD colour display, radio, MP3 player, RDS double tuner and an instrument cluster with high-resolution 5.7'' TFT display. Route guidance is provided via an arrow or map display, along with spoken instructions. The navigation system is operated intuitively via the iDrive Touch Controller with direct menu control buttons and eight functional bookmarks or, depending on the vehicle's features, via voice control.
Navigation System Plus shows drivers the quick and direct route through numerous African countries and in some cases even further afield. TMC technology is used for the early detection of traffic obstructions and alternative routes are calculated at rapid speed, for a safe arrival at the driver's destination.
